A Second Chance at Sarah

November 22nd, 2009

In February Ape Entertainment will publish my first graphic novel – A Second Chance at Sarah. It’s a supernatural love story and pretty much the opposite of the summer blockbuster action/adventure story I worked on for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves). I’m going to start posting pages, pin-ups, and sketches of the comic leading up to its release.

Here are a few sketches that Joy, the amazing artist of the book, did when she explored the of Sarah, the title character:

Uncharted 2: Among Reviews

September 29th, 2009

It’s been over a year since I posted anything here… but it’s time to change that. I’m resurfacing from working on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which comes out on October 13. Since I got into the industry I wanted to finish a game that’ll average over 90% in its reviews. Looks like I’m getting my wish. :)

iPhone Blogging

July 22nd, 2008

I got the iPhone a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been in love with it. Apple really has their userability down!

Wordpress just released a cool app that let’s you update your blog from your iPhone. This whole post was done in about a minute from my phone.

Open Canvas

April 21st, 2008

I spent much of Sunday playing with different digital drawing programs (Photoshop, Painter, Sketchbook, and OpenCanvas) in hopes of finding which one is ideal for drawing and inking comics. I found that OpenCanvas has the best line sensitivity. Check out a quick sketch:

The downside is that I can’t easily manipulate the image like I could in Photoshop. Hopefully this forces me to sketch more and plant the proportions properly.

Sketches

April 8th, 2008

Did some home life drawing sketches from images of a model I found in DeviantArt. I also experimented with textures – might have gone a bit overboard with this one.

I’m Published!

April 7th, 2008

I co-wrote an article with Richard Lemarchand for this months Game Developer Magazine. It’s pretty cool that my first published writing (not including the story work I did for Uncharted) is a cover piece for one of my favorite magazines. It’s a pretty cool article about the blood, sweat, and tears we poured over this game.

Bang Bang

April 2nd, 2008

It’s been a freakin’ long time since the last post. I’ve been working on a new story where I gave myself the challenge that it can’t have any superheroes or zombies (or any kind of horror). Anyways here are a couple of drawings I’ve done to figure out one of the main characters.

The Half Tuck

January 27th, 2008

So Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has broken a million in sales worldwide. It’s crazy to think that there are at least that many people out there playing our little adventure game. What’s even crazier is reading this blog entry from a childhood idol of mine:

Pretty damn funny, Tim! Everyone at Naughty Dog is now back from vacation and our next project is starting to gather steam – which I can’t talk about quite yet.

I played and finished Mario Galaxy. After working on Uncharted for two years it was nice to play something that is not constrained by reality or story. Just like most of the reviews have been saying, this game felt like a return to form for Mario. I loved the tight focus of each level (except for the swimming sections – is there any game that has fun swimming?)

Bring It

November 14th, 2007

Well our game is about to hit the shelves and it’s getting some pretty cool reviews:

Gamespy (4.5/5.0)
IGN (9.1/10.0)
Eurogamer (9/10)

It is such a badass-rewarding-awesome feeling to work on something for so hard and so long and then to see it pay off.  Now it’s time for vacation, baby.

Uncharted in NZ

October 10th, 2007

I did an interview for Uncharted for a New Zealand newspaper.  They’ve posted the interview online.  Check it out:

The game is pretty much done.  We’re just putting the final bug fixes and tuning parameters now.
