Lilly PSP

I did a quick hack job and made a PSP version of Lilly Wolf #2. I love looking at the comic on that small bright screen. Check it out right here:

Unzip and drop that folder in your “photo” folder on your PSP memory stick and enjoy the PSP cut of the latest Lilly Adventure!

I Heart PSP

Monday, March 20th, 2006

So I’ve been playing my PSP a lot more lately. We seem to be going through some PSP renaissance. Between Daxter, Syphon Filter, and now Megaman Powered Up, the PSP is finally getting some amazing games.

I’m really digging Megaman. I love the direction Capcom went with the art style. Even though the graphics are 3D, the game has a beautiful 2D look with well animated characters. I hope Konami is watching these remakes (I would love to see a remade Contra or Castlevania done is this style).

One of the coolest features of this game is the level editor that lets you create your own Megaman level and share that level with other players on-line. This is a great tool for people who want to develop/practice their game design skills. I wish I played around with such editors in high-school. I would definitely recommend this editor to people wanting to learn platforming design.

To Dumb Down or Not to Dumb Down?

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

I’ve posted my comic on several forums in order to get some feedback. So far I’ve gotten mixed responses. I found people that like the art and appreciate the slow writing that I’m going for while others found big flaws in my drawing style and have called me a lousy writer. The problem I’m facing is that I really like this character I’ve created and I want to take the time to tell her story. I struggle and constantly think and rethink my stories in order tell them in the most economical way so that I don’t beat the reader over the head with the message that is behind each story. I’m also trying to make each story stand on its own — while making progress on a much larger arc that won’t be apparent for a few stories. The problem I’m facing is that I’m being too subtle for many readers and they don’t think there is anything more to the stories than what is immediatly perceived.

I’m hoping that, a few more stories in, those same readers that think that the character is very flat and cliché will appreciate the time I took to build this first layer of the character and her world. I hope that by not spelling things out I will gain the respect of the readers because I respect their ability to absorb the narrative. Well…either that or I’ll prove that I’m a lousy writer.
